The Mosquito Repellent Oath Challenge for a Guinne
Summer is the active phase of mosquitoes. Mosquito bites not only cause painful and itchy swellings, but they also spread diseases like malaria, encephalitis B, dengue, and yellow fever. However, many families still know very little about mosquitoes. A survey by Babeking in collaboration with the China Women’s Development Foundation showed that over half of the respondents would take necessary mosquito repellent measures only when bitten.
How could we improve the public awareness of mosquito repelling and better protect the health and safety of the public, especially kids? In the middle of last month when summer was imminent, Babeking initiated a mosquito repelling action to challenge a Guinness World Record™. As of June 19, 2018, 87,009 people participated in this challenge, and the Guinness World Records™ title of the “most oaths collected in one health event” was awarded. It was Babeking’s expectation to draw the attention of more parents to the hazards of mosquito-borne diseases and create a healthy living environment for kids through this event.
▌A surprising scene: over 80,000 people taking an oath against mosquito-borne diseases
As China’s leading mosquito and insect repellent and protection brand, Babeking has been improving mosquito and insect repellent and protection conditions over the years. It has offered mosquito repellent and protection education through community-based activities in cooperation with the China Women’s Development Foundation and the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention for many years. In 2017, Babeking initiated a mosquito repellent challenge to a Guinness World Records title in the form of H5 to further raise the public awareness of mosquito repellent and protection. They also did this in an effort to make more parents and kids aware of and vigilant about mosquito-borne diseases. Entrants only had to play an online interactive mini-game and pledge to use healthy and natural plant extract mosquito repellent products that better protected kids from mosquito-borne diseases to participate in the Guinness World Records challenge.
In order to cater to Internet users’ preferences and make the event more influential, Babeking prepared a total cash award of RMB 30,000 with awards of RMB 500, RMB 300, and RMB 200 for the first, second, and third prizes. This contest was created to encourage its participants to pledge to fight mosquito-borne diseases. In addition, this event also drew great attention from the China Women’s Development Foundation and the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention who conducted extensive publicity in their own Popular Science activities further promoting the public’s participation in the Guinness World Records challenge. After the initiation of the event, the number of participants quickly rose to 87,009. This record was then accepted by the Guinness World Records website.
▌Guinness World Records, Yummy Mummy, and Popular Science Exhibition
The Guinness World Records challenge was accomplished through social networking among Internet users as an initiative of Babeking to arouse public awareness of mosquito repelling and protection this summer. The 2017 National Awareness Arousing Revolution of Babeking began in May. On May 9, Babeking aired a novel live broadcast on the Tmall Live platform (live.tmall.com) with popular Yummy Mummy and famous cartoonist Chau Yueyue. This broadcast broke many common rumors on mosquito repellent in daily life, and it attracted up to 70,000 viewers.
On May 21, Babeking organized the “Reassuring Mosquito Repelling & Constant Protection Harmful Insect Popular Science Exhibition” together with China Women’s Development Foundation and the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention. As the first domestic “kid vision” Popular Science exhibition, it allowed parents and kids to learn more about harmful insects and proper mosquito repellent practices through a funny, on-site experience, Q&A, and interactive DIY. At the Popular Science exhibition, the “Mothers’ Anti-mosquito League” created by Babeking for mosquito repellent and disease prevention was also upgraded as a main part of this mosquito repellent challenge.
▌Mosquito repelling concept of utmost warmth: keeping kids healthy is the top priority.
From the live broadcast of the mosquito repellent experiment with 70,000 concurrent viewers, the first domestic Popular Science exhibition on harmful insects from kids’ perspectives to the Guinness World Records challenge with over 80,000 participants, Babeking performed its corporate social responsibility by actively improving public mosquito repellent and protection awareness, and by offering healthy and green mosquito repellent products to protect kids from mosquitoes and other harmful insects.
Insiders think that the serial mosquito repellent and protection activities of Babeking both utilized its own advantages and expertise, while following the most accepted, up-to-date, communication modes.
